Yesterday was
amazing! Seriously, I can't stop the permagrin on my face. Spending the winter on Mackinac has been incredibly fun. Yesterday's adventure included crossing the ice bridge, which is what happens when the lake freezes over, and you can cross from the island to St. Ignace, usually on a snowmobile, but also on skis or bicycles. I even got to drive!

From when we stopped, with Mighty Mac in the background! |

Christmas trees line the path, highlighting the 'safest' way to cross the ice |
The next stop was Mackinaw City, after crossing the bridge, and the Keyhole restaurant, where we ate the
best shrimp and burgers! Then onto Cheboygan, where the biggest axe in the world is!
|
Seriously, it was so large! Sorry about the weird look of it, my camera wanted to add random filters I guess. |
The next adventure stop was the biggest cross in the world, seemingly sticking to our theme of seeing/eating/going to the biggest and best things within a few hours of the island.

How gorgeous is this? I'd love to come back in the summer! |
Next up was Harbor Springs, and Bar Harbor, where we had the most delicious whitefish chowder and Guinness (yum)! This was just the quick prequel to the Tunnel of Trees, a 20 mile drive along the bluff, looking over Lake Michigan. It was so beautiful, I can't wait to come back in the summer when the trees are more full.

Just one of the phenomenal views of the lake from the Tunnel of Trees. It was an absolutely beautiful drive. |
The last and final stop was Audie's Chippewa Room, where the taxidermy was plentiful, and everyone seemed to know us, or at least the friend I went with. One final Cheboygan Lighthouse Amber (delicious), and then we were on our way back to the snowmobile. It was dark by then, and I was a little scared because I have never crossed in the dark before. But it was so great! The sky was so clear, with so many stars and a very bright moon. I even got to drive for a little bit, during the smoother part, and got to kick up the speed! (: Then, back on the island, and finally home. It was a long day, and so incredibly fun! Now, off to tame the disaster of my room (too many craft projects), and binge watch House of Cards.
